Acknowledgments in Publications

We ask all authors of scientific publications, as well as theses and dissertations, to acknowledge the contributions of the X-ray Diffraction Facility to the collection of data in the acknowledgments section of their manuscripts. This acknowledgment is important to us because it highlights the value of our infrastructure to the department and helps us justify the department’s operations and further development. A suggested wording for such an acknowledgment is provided below.

Single-crystal and/or powder X-ray diffraction was performed in the Facility for X-ray Diffraction of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at University of Cologne which benefits from generous funding by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). The contribution of the Facility for X-ray Diffraction is kindly acknowledged.

Geräteparameter

Die meisten Messdetails werden vom Operator für jeden Datensatz über die Reportfunktion in Apex generiert und sind dem Datensatz beigefügt. Sobald die Daten neu integriert oder erneut Absorptionskorrekturen vorgenommen werden, sollte der Bericht entsprechend aktualisiert werden.

Unabhängig der individuellen Arbeitsweise fehlen in der finalen CIF-Datei oft notwendige und nützliche Informationen, wie die korrekten Geräteparameter. Mit Software wie Olex können diese Parameter automatisch aus einer Definitionsdatei in die finale CIF-Datei übernommen werden.

Die Datei kann auch in jedem gängigen Texteditor geöffnet werden, um die jeweiligen Einträge an den passenden Stellen der finalen CIF-Datei zu ersetzen.
